Macadamia oil: benefits for facial skin

Huile de macadamia : branche de macadamia, grappe de noix et fleurs en épi en silhouette, au soleil couchant

Macadamia oil is a gentle, nourishing oil that is highly prized for dry, fragile, and mature skin. Here is where it comes from, what it contains, what its benefits are for the skin on the face and body, and how to use it when the cold weather and heating return. It is the totem tree of the Baume Magique, and it can be found in several OMOYÉ skincare products.

Macadamia, a tree with precious nuts

The macadamia is a tree native to Australia, now grown in other warm climates, notably in South Africa and Kenya. It produces round nuts with very hard shells, rich in lipids, minerals, and vitamins. They are best known in cooking. In cosmetics, it is the oil pressed from these nuts that interests us.

This oil is fluid, a very pale yellow, with a subtle scent. It penetrates easily and leaves the skin soft without weighing it down. This is what makes it a choice oil for both facial and body care.

On an ingredient list, it is recognized by the INCI name Macadamia Integrifolia Seed Oil or Macadamia Ternifolia Seed Oil, depending on the variety of the tree.

At OMOYÉ, the macadamia is the totem tree of the Baume Magique. Combined with 25 plants, it forms the botanical alchemy of this multi-purpose balm designed for dry and fragile skin.

Macadamia oil: benefits for facial skin

Macadamia oil owes its qualities to its fatty acid composition. It notably contains:

  • omega-9 (oleic acid), in large quantities;
  • omega-7 (palmitoleic acid), quite rare in vegetable oils, and for which macadamia is one of the most well-known sources;
  • omega-6 (linoleic acid);
  • palmitic acid and stearic acid;
  • vitamin E, an antioxidant.

Together, these molecules give macadamia oil four properties:

  • Nourishing: it softens the skin and helps it retain its moisture.
  • Protective: it helps preserve the hydrolipidic film, that thin veil of water and lipids that naturally protects the skin.
  • Softening: it makes the skin soft and comfortable.
  • Soothing: it comforts dry skin that feels tight.

On the face, this translates to skin that is more supple, softer, and less tight.

For which skin types?

Macadamia oil is indicated for:

  • fragile, stressed, or sensitive skin;
  • dry and mature skin;
  • dry areas of the body: hands, elbows, knees, legs.

It is a cold-season oil. In autumn and winter, the wind, the cold outside, and the dry air from heating inside weaken the skin's barrier. It loses moisture faster, feels tight, and sometimes becomes red. An oil that nourishes and protects this natural film then has its rightful place in your ritual.

It also pairs very well with skin that changes with age, when it becomes thinner and requires more lasting nourishment.

Are you unsure of what your skin needs this season? The OMOYÉ skin diagnostic will guide you to the appropriate ritual in two minutes.

Macadamia, marula, jojoba: what are the differences?

These three oils are often cited together because they nourish without weighing down the skin. However, they do not do exactly the same thing.

Macadamia, for dry and fragile skin

Rich in omega-9 and omega-7, macadamia oil nourishes, protects, and softens. It is the comforting oil for skin that feels tight and for dry areas.

Marula, for the radiance of dry skin

Another treasure from Southern Africa, marula oil is also very rich in omega-9. We love it for the softness and radiance it gives to the complexion.

Jojoba, for all skin types

Jojoba oil is actually a liquid wax. Very light, it is suitable for both combination and dry skin.

No need to choose: in a well-thought-out formula, these oils complement each other. The Huile aux Trésors actually combines macadamia and marula, and the Baume Magique, macadamia and jojoba.

OMOYÉ skincare with macadamia oil

Macadamia oil is included in several Magie Végétale skincare products. Here are those that feature it, from face to body.

The Baume Magique, its totem tree

The Baume Magique is a multi-purpose SOS balm for the face and body, in a 50 ml tube, with 25 botanical active ingredients including macadamia oil, baobab oil, and comfrey. It soothes tightness and overheating upon application, and nourishes without a greasy film: the skin becomes supple and soft. Day cream, night treatment, damaged hands, lips: it is the treatment for skin battered by the cold and wind. 99% of natural origin, €34.

The Huile aux Trésors, for the face

The Huile aux Trésors is a dry oil for the face and neck, in a 15 ml bottle. Seven oils, including macadamia, baobab, and marula. It nourishes without a greasy effect, revives radiance, and leaves the skin smoother to the touch. 100% of natural origin, Ecocert certified, €40.

The Crème Magistrale, for everyday use

The Crème Magistrale combines 23 botanical active ingredients around bitter orange blossom water, with shea, argan, and macadamia. It hydrates and nourishes: the skin remains supple and no longer feels tight. 93% of testers note an anti-aging effect (self-assessment, 22 consumers, 30 days). 50 ml tube, €54.

The Onguent Magistral, for the body

The Onguent Magistral is a rich body treatment, in a 200 ml jar, for dry to very dry skin. It nourishes for long-lasting hydration: after 28 days, 96% of testers find their skin smoother and 92% firmer (self-assessment, 35 consumers). €84.

How to use macadamia oil in your autumn ritual

A simple ritual for the days when your skin starts to feel tight:

  1. In the evening, on clean and barely damp skin, warm a drop of Huile aux Trésors between your hands, then press it onto the face and neck. Take a minute for a facial self-massage.
  2. In the morning, a dab of Crème Magistrale on the face and neck.
  3. When the skin feels tight, after returning from a walk in the cold or on damaged hands, a dab of Baume Magique on dry areas.
  4. For the body, the Onguent Magistral after a shower, twice a week, or every day in case of intense dryness.

Count on three weeks to judge a ritual: that is the time it takes for the skin to show how much suppleness and comfort it has gained.

Frequently asked questions about macadamia oil

Is macadamia oil suitable for sensitive skin?

Yes. It is one of the oils indicated for fragile, stressed, and sensitive skin, thanks to its soothing and softening properties. As with any new skincare product, do a test on a small area before the first application.

Does it leave a greasy film?

It penetrates easily and leaves the skin soft without weighing it down. In the Huile aux Trésors as well as the Baume Magique, it is combined with other oils for a finish without a greasy effect.

Can it be used on the body?

Of course. It is indicated for dry areas of the body. The Baume Magique can be applied to damaged hands or lips, and the Onguent Magistral nourishes the entire body. To find the right treatment for your skin, take the diagnostic.

Macadamia or evening primrose?

Both complement each other. Evening primrose oil is rich in omega-6, while macadamia is rich in omega-9 and omega-7. The Baume Magique, Crème Magistrale, and Onguent Magistral actually contain both.
