Tous les rituels Lequel pour moi ?The gestures that change everything: how to apply your skincare to boost its effects
We spend a lot of time choosing our skincare products. The ingredients, the active agents, the texture, the origin of the plants. And then we apply them in thirty seconds, distractedly, in front of the mirror, between two thoughts.
That’s a shame, because the application method matters almost as much as the formula itself. The same serum applied hastily versus applied with care will not yield the same result. It’s not a matter of magic; it’s a matter of absorption, circulation, and the time allowed for the skin to take in what we give it.
Why the technique makes such a difference
Skin is not a passive sponge. It absorbs better when it is slightly warm, when it is still a little damp, and when you give it a few seconds between each layer. Three conditions that we almost always neglect.
The warmth of your hands
Warming a product between your palms before applying it is the simplest and most underestimated step. The warmth liquefies botanical oils, slightly opens the pores, and facilitates the diffusion of active ingredients. It takes five seconds.
This is especially true for rich textures like Le Baume Magique or Onguent Magistral, which become much more melting and spread without pulling on the skin.
Slightly damp skin
Perfectly dry skin lets part of what you apply evaporate. Damp skin, on the other hand, traps hydration under the layer of skincare. This is the principle of layering, and it really works.
A spritz of Brume Bienfaisante d'Afrique before your serum completely changes the game. The product glides better, penetrates faster, and the skin stays comfortable for longer.
Press instead of rub
The most common reflex is to spread. We rub, we pull, we stretch the skin outward. This is exactly what you shouldn’t do, especially around the eye contour and the neck, where the skin is thin and loses firmness easily.
The right technique can be summed up in one word: pressure. Deposit the product in small dabs on the forehead, cheeks, and chin, then press gently with your palms and fingertips. Repeat three or four times. The skin literally drinks the product in.
For targeted treatments like the Concentré Magistral, pressure is even more important. Gently tap onto crow’s feet, frown lines, and the contour of the mouth, without ever stretching.
Always sweep upward
Gravity does its work all day long. You might as well not help it during your routine. All application movements should go from the center of the face outward, and from bottom to top.
The basic movement
Start from the middle of the chin, sweep up along the jawline toward the ears. Then from the nose toward the temples. Then from the center of the forehead toward the sides. Three passes are enough. It’s simple, and it becomes automatic after a few days.
A two-minute drainage
In the morning, when the face is a little puffy, add a drainage step. With the knuckles of your bent index fingers, gently sweep up from the jaw toward the ears, then down along the neck toward the collarbones. You drain stagnant water, and the complexion visibly brightens.
A product with a bit of "slip" makes the exercise much more pleasant. Huile aux Trésors or the Fluide Sacré au Café Vert are perfect for this.
Respect the order and the timing
The rule is simple: from the most fluid to the richest. Mist, serum, targeted concentrate, cream, oil. Each texture needs a few seconds before the next, otherwise the layers mix instead of stacking.
Count twenty to thirty seconds between each step. It’s not long, and it’s often the quietest moment of the day. Take the opportunity to breathe.
And for the body
The same logic applies. On skin that is still damp after a shower, use circular movements sweeping toward the heart. The Soin Souverain Sculptant requires a bit more focus on targeted areas, with light pinching and firm movements.
In summary
Warm, dampen, press, sweep upward, wait. Five reflexes, two extra minutes a day, and skincare products that finally deliver what they’re meant to.
True luxury isn’t about accumulating products. It’s about taking the time to apply them properly.
